Documenting Community Experiences
Since 2021, communities across Myanmar have been living through rapid and often difficult changes. Alongside local partners, we work to ensure that these experiences are carefully documented, respected, and not overlooked.
Our work focuses on gathering insights from people directly affected by conflict and instability — creating a record of lived realities that can contribute to broader understanding, accountability, and future pathways toward justice.
We have engaged with individuals and communities across multiple regions, including Yangon, Mandalay, Bago, Magway, Sagaing, Tanintharyi, Chin, Kayin, and Kayah. Each experience shared adds to a growing body of knowledge that reflects the diversity and complexity of challenges people face.
How We Work
Our approach is grounded in trust, care, and confidentiality.
We engage directly with community members through in-depth conversations, creating safe spaces where individuals can share their experiences in their own words. These exchanges are handled with sensitivity and respect, recognizing the risks and realities people continue to navigate.
The information gathered is carefully documented and analyzed to help:
- Build a clearer understanding of how communities are affected
- Support ongoing efforts toward justice and accountability
- Inform discussions among partners, advocates, and decision-makers
Protecting the safety of those we work with is central to everything we do. For this reason, we follow strict protocols around data protection and confidentiality.
Responsible Use of Information
The experiences shared with us are deeply personal and often sensitive. We are committed to ensuring that this information is used responsibly and ethically.
- Detailed data is shared only with trusted legal and judicial actors involved in formal processes
- We do not publicly release identifiable or sensitive information
- Any insights shared publicly are carefully selected to protect individuals while helping raise awareness
This approach allows us to contribute to broader efforts for justice while safeguarding the dignity and security of community members.
Why This Work Matters
Behind every piece of information is a human experience.
By documenting and preserving these experiences, we help ensure that the realities faced by communities are recognized — not only locally, but also by those in positions to influence change.
This work contributes to:
- Strengthening pathways toward justice and accountability
- Informing national and international understanding of ongoing challenges
- Supporting advocacy efforts grounded in real experiences
- Ensuring that community voices remain part of wider conversations
At its core, this is about making sure that people’s experiences are not lost — and that they can help shape a more just and equitable future.
